However, none are truly distinct, aside from Bard and Ranger. The specializations are interesting, enough. However, I’d rather just play as a warrior and take a rogue with me. The only true advantage is the ability to pick locks, as no other class can truly get to the same level as a rogue. It’s core abilities were largely the same. In many ways, it was just a less-armored warrior. The Rogue, however, was an extremely under-powered class. Spirit Healer is extremely useful, but I usually just let Wynne use it while I continue with my carnage. Blood Mage has a few useful abilities, but since it absorbs health, I wasn’t a fan. Arcane Warrior is definitely interesting if you want to be up in the action with your mage. While Shapeshifting is a cool ability, I found that it was far too limiting.

With regards to classes, some felt useless (to me, anyway). If your party gets obliterated during a fight, odds are you will go down with them. The only weakness this class has is the standard mage issue, low health. Personally, I enjoyed acting as a cannon in the back, demolishing things as we went through the story. Additionally, with the right leveling, it could be a jack-of-all-trades. With a large range of abilities, the Mage was able to act as a buffer and de-buffer, a powerful DPS, or a support character. The Templar was useful against mages with spell disruption. The Reaver utilizes savage abilities to cause mass damage (and it is awesome). The Champion would buff the rest of the party.

Each specialization (Champion, Reaver, Berserker, and Templar) felt distinct. With the right health and strength, it was a force to be reckoned with. The class itself was nearly indestructible as you leveled up. It is able to take on all sorts of roles ranging from the sword and shield tank to an archer with the ability The Warrior was, in my opinion, the best class for Dragon Age: Origins. However, overall, each classes specializations felt very unique and useful (for the most part). Now, with classes for this game, there were some balance issues (as they have all had to some extent). NOTE: For the sake of simplicity, I will be leaving Dragon Age Origin’s expansion, Awakening, out of this.Īh, the one that started it all.
